Finale. I Was Wrong

An old aluminium laptop open on a wooden table in a small room, the screen glowing, evening outside the window.illustration
In the summer of 2010 my MacBook mined a hundred bitcoins. I sold them at ten dollars each.

The hundred bitcoins my MacBook mined in the summer of 2010 I sold at ten dollars, on a dip, after the price had shot up to thirty for the first time. Coins that had been worth less than a dinner turned into a thousand dollars, and I earned them without doing anything for it. At the end of September 2026, as I finish this book, a hundred bitcoins would be worth more than $8 million.

At this point many readers will decide that the whole book was written by a man who sold too early and still can’t forgive himself for it. If I had held on to those coins, I would be richer, and this is the only mistake about crypto I am sure of. All my other mistakes were of a different kind, and I was not the only one who made them.
