Little St. James island in the Caribbean is small, about thirty hectares. From the air you can see palm trees, a helipad, a swimming pool and a strange building in white and blue stripes with a golden dome, which the locals called the temple. The financier Jeffrey Epstein bought the island in 1998. After his death in a New York jail in August 2019, the island became the most famous crime scene in the world, and its owner a man whose acquaintance broke the careers of university presidents, princes and Nobel laureates.

In January 2026 the US Justice Department released more than three million pages from the Epstein case to the public: letters, address books, flight logs. Journalists who covered crypto dug into these files with a vague unease and found more than they had expected.
