The BitConnect ceremony in Pattaya, October 28, 2017. The hall roared, and the company had three months left.

On October 28, 2017, in a hotel in Pattaya, BitConnect held its first annual ceremony. The hall was packed with its partners from all over the world, and the best salespeople came up on stage to tell how their lives had changed. One of them was Carlos Matos, an investor from New York, who stepped up to the microphone and shouted: “Hey hey hey! Hey hey hey! Wasa wasa wasa wasa wasa wassup! Bitconneeeeeect!” Then he told how he had put his money into BitConnect and how fast it had grown since. The hall roared.

Three months later BitConnect shut down, and the clip of Matos became one of the most famous memes in the history of crypto. People still drop it into any conversation about what a pyramid scheme looks like from the inside.
