Moscow, summer 2017. In any coffee shop, someone at the next table was talking about a token sale.
In the summer of 2017 it was hard to find a coffee shop in Moscow where nobody at the next table was discussing a token sale. Young men in identical hoodies opened their laptops and showed each other charts on which a small coin became a big one within a week, blockchain forums filled hotel conference rooms every weekend, and at each of them somebody explained that Russia, a country of programmers and physicists, had finally got a chance to overtake Silicon Valley without asking its venture funds for money. Now the whole world gave money at once, in ether, and all it took was a good whitepaper, a handsome website and a couple of famous names on the list of advisers.
