There is a further step, which Netflix thought of. In 2011 the company described a program with the telling name Chaos Monkey, which during working hours, on the real system, switches off servers at random. The idea is that servers will break anyway, and it is better to find out whether the system survives it on a Tuesday at eleven in the morning, when all the engineers are in, than on a Saturday at three in the morning. The monkey Pelevin sat at a typewriter to write code got a different job at Netflix: checking that what has been written survives its encounter with reality.
